Brooke Fitts of Brookelyn Photography returned to Hum Creative for custom packaging to accompany her photo CD’s. We set out to create a branded gift worthy of the beautiful photos the packaging contains. Brookelyn’s identity extended to an outer box, card, cd sleeve declaring “you look so good,” and a custom 32-page notebook designed and written by Hum. The “Love Wins” book encourages Brooke’s clients to record stories and memories of their life together—the perfect accompaniment to the photos of their special day. It was a pleasure to develop this unique packaging that turns an ordinary mail day into a premium gift experience. Just one more reason clients love working with Brookelyn Photography!

After working with photographer Pamela Littky on her previous promo, Gateway to Death Valley, We jumped at the opportunity to partner with her again. Pamela was looking for a creative way to promote her recent photography work. We landed on a “Happy Hour with Pamela Littky” concept, complete with custom coasters, cigar and box wraps, and 13 unique drink recipe cards to feature her incredible images. Pamela’s diverse subject base gave us hours of entertainment in brainstorming cocktails to match her well-known models, such as “Mr. Martin” (Steve Martin), “The Lover” (Courtney Love), and “The Dude” aka White Russian (Jeff Bridges).

Showing of Pamela’s extraordinary photographs is always a pleasure and we were excited to learn the Happy Hour kit was featured in PDN Magazine’s recent article, “10 Stand-out Photo Promos.”

View more of our work with Pamela at humcreative, and visit pamelalittky.com for more of her photos!

October 2012 saw the release of Benjamin Gibbard’s first solo album, Former Lives. We couldn’t have been happier to bring the design to life, creating all elements of the CD and vinyl packaging. Ben chose an abstract painting by artist Joan Hiller as the foundation for the album artwork. We then selected typography to complement the many layers and colors exhibited in Hiller’s painting, and continued the visual interest by wrapping the “Former Lives” title around the booklet. It’s always an honor to design packaging when we are such big fans. Order a copy of Former Lives for yourself at Amazon.

In honor of Halloween, I’ve put together my top 3...

In honor of Halloween, I’ve put together my top 3 f’d up children’s cartoon villains.

3. Carface - All Dogs Go To Heaven: Carface doesn’t like sharing money, so he just kills his business partner Charlie by hitting him with a car, the practical solution to any money problem.

1. The Rat - Lady and the Tramp: It’s common knowledge that rats just cant stop trying to murder babies, so it was very necessary to include a bloodthirsty rat in a love story about dogs.

We’re excited to announce a new Humite.
This week Dave Grohl announced that the Foo Fighters are on indefinite hiatus. My little buddy Boden expressed our mutual astonishment at this news in his Totally Awesome Band Tee of the Week!

Last year Boden and I went to the Sasquatch Festival where he enjoyed a backstage barbecue and more attention than the rockstars he was there to see. He showed off his drum t-shirt to Taylor Hawkins, met guitar god Pat Smear, and was spoiled by keyboard wizard Rami Jaffee. A few months later Boden went to his second Foo Fighters show—not a shabby number for a two-year-old. Although he dozed off during “My Hero,” he opened his eyes amidst the applause to state, “I love music.” Profound declarations complete, he immediately fell back to sleep. As any good auntie would, I bought this Foo-shirt for Boden to commemorate our shows together and applaud his vocal love of music. Undoubtedly the first of many totally awesome band tees for Boden, I’m pretty sure it will also be the first totally awesome band tee to woo the ladies of Stratford pre-school. I mean, it works for Dave Grohl—even on hiatus.

It’s been a long...

Thank dog it’s Friday everyone! It’s been a long week, one that started with the Seahawks beating some other team in the dramatic final seconds of a football game. Some people, and by some people I mean everyone, are blaming this win on the current replacement referees. Some people, and by some people I mean everyone, might say these referees are blind. That’s why this week we’re featuring Tanner, the blind Golden Retriever.

I like to think if Air Bud ever had contract problems they’d bring in Tanner to be the backup Golden Receiver. Whatever he lacks in sight he adds in heart, as Tanner was once an orphan dog that aside from being blind had frequent seizures. Things weren’t so great for Tanner, that is until he met his new bud Blaire. Blaire, like many of those involved with the NFL, has had multiple problems with the law and guns. But thanks to second chances, he can now be found leading Tanner around with a leash.

Now, there’s no telling if the NFL would alter it’s rules to allow Blaire out on the field with Tanner, because technically it would count as too many dogs on the field. Unfortunately, we may have to wait until a game is completely ruined for anything to happen. None the less, we’re rooting for you Tanner!

I never realized how much the iPhone 4 sucked. In the old days,...

I never realized how much the iPhone 4 sucked. In the old days, you’d have to hold your phone above your brunch for a good 10 seconds to get an Instagramable photo of it. With the new camera it’s like 2 second, which is good if your at a vegan punk place and already feel like a yuppy because you haven’t bleached your hair since high school.

Needless to say, like a true yuppy I braved the harsh Seattle rain for a solid 20 minutes to get this amazing device. In this time I talked to a lady with overly fashionable glasses and a flower in her hair telling me about all the features of the iPhone 5. “You can FaceTime with your parents!” she said and thought I cared. After she was done annoying me, a man that owns a pilates studio tried to cut me and another person in line. Wearing his toe shoes he told me about the class he had to teach in 15 minutes. After I got inside I asked an employee if they were sold out of the Samsung Galaxy phones, the guy didn’t understand this joke and I felt bad for him.

The best thing about my new iPhone is that none of the apps are updated, leaving you with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. This really helps you realize how much you were missing out on for so many years. The jury’s still out on how well you’ll be able to discreetly text while driving and how many times my drunk friends can drop it before it explodes.

I give this product a tentative ”Super Awesome”, until the iPhone 6 arrives.

This is Chelsea and Derek’s last week as Hum Interns, more...

This is Chelsea and Derek’s last week as Hum Interns, more commonly known as Hinterms. It’s never easy to see a protégé go off into the callus world, like a baby fox let out to whence they came, but you hope you trained them well enough to kern themselves away from predators.

Chelsea was Hum’s first intern ever, and Derek was Hum’s first boy intern ever! Over the past year these two have helped us pitch books, throw parties, and raise a puppy. Most importantly, they designed some seriously cool stuff. Best of luck, Derek and Cheslea, we’re gonna miss you!

Thank dog it’s Friday everyone! We gather on this blog...

Thank dog it’s Friday everyone! We gather on this blog today to celebrate love. And not the love between man and his best friend, but between man and lady.

I will be leaving this weekend to get married in California. This means Pickle Dog’s name will no long be hyphenated. It also means that I should probably retire from design and fulfill my dream of having a dog ranch.

I’ll be back in 2 weeks to write more amazing reviews of everyday things and share beautiful dog happenings. Have a nice dachshund weekend!

I am by no means a blue-collar worker. I did a lot of screen printing in college and drove a Zamboni in high school, but that’s about it. This is a problem, as right now it’s really cool to be a construction worker. Or at least look like one. There’s something seemingly honest about a man that works with his hands. And though I also technically work with my hands, they just don’t get dirty. This fact disqualifies me.

None the less, my first review is of Stanley’s “Classic Vacuum Bottle 16oz Thermos”. Stanley has been around since 1913, and I can see why. This is a nice product. I can make coffee in the morning and it will still be warm the next day when I forget to take it to work! My favorite thing about this thermos is that the lid acts as a cup. This allows me to pretend as if I totally don’t have the opportunity to put my coffee in a cup, like I work in an environment where fancy people things like that break.

My only problem with this item is that it’s made in China. Which is bad, according to some real American’s reviews on Amazon. Some guy gave it one star! He was pissed about it.

Aside from that, I give this item a “Relatively Rad”.
